Month 2 of Cuteness
Desmond's second month brought with it some terrific firsts as well as real joy - our dear friends were married AND Des started to smile!
Please check out this slideshow* for a monthly recap in photos. The song is Rockabye Baby's version of the Guns N' Roses classic, Sweet Child O' Mine.
We had our first road trip and overnight away from home in order to celebrate the happy wedding couple. Desi also had his first babysitter experience that weekend - staying with the grandparents (all four of them!) while Mama and Daddy went to the rehearsal dinner together for a couple of hours. He danced with friends, slept in the sun and cuddled with family at the wedding - after screaming his head off because we didn't understand he was hungry, dammit. Oh, we're still learning. The weekend also made us very familiar with the breast pump - thank heavens for THAT invention!
In the second month Desi got more familiar with the bathtub and now he loves it... he just doesn't like getting OUT of it. Not a fan of being cool, this kid, he likes to be as warm as possible. In fact he sleeps all swaddled up in many blankets. With socks on. And a hat. He's in a bassinet in our room, on Dique's side of the bed. Dique, by the way, has gotten great and what we call "the baby snooze." This means that when Des starts stirring and we want a little more sleep, Dique gently shakes the bassinet... I think he can do this in his sleep now. It has been working well and we're all getting sleep. I know that by putting that in writing Child #2 is going to be an anti-sleep terror and we're going to be exhausted. Oh well, I'm enjoying this while I can.
Des also started pushing up quite a bit in month number two. His pediatrician really wants him to have 30 minutes of tummy time every day but oh! The crying. Desi HATES "tummy time". We manage to sneak in a few minutes every hour or so and he's lifting his head up really well, he just can't be on his tummy for more than 5-8 minutes at a time. The expression "baby steps" exists for a reason, right? He does love music, though, and both grandfathers spoil him with many happy moments filled with songs. His grandmothers have all sorts of fun up their sleeves - they know more games and holding positions than I could ever learn about from books. We are so lucky to have family close! Especially when it comes to cute photo ops of cousins - Des was lucky his cousins wanted to hold and cuddle him after waiting so patiently and practicing (with the cat!) for so long. Check out the slideshow for that sweet picture.
Des is growing like a champ and at his two month check-up was over 15 pounds and almost 25 inches long. He is our big boy, our baby. We love his chubby thighs and super tummy. Towards his second month-birthday he also started getting chatty - cooing and talking lots and lots. We also started getting out and about a lot more - strolling everywhere we can. Like real people! We can't wait to learn more about this little funny one as we get to know his personality!
