Month 1 of Cuteness

We're catching up over here in DesiLand, and owe you some pictures. My iPhone is working overtime to catch all of Des' silly faces and special moments with friends and family - and I still feel like I've missed a ton of shots! Oh well. For a play-by-play and picture's of Desmond's birth, check out this post.

The slideshow captures a lot of great times from our first month as a family. Check it out here!*

The song in the background is Don't Stop Believin' by Rockabye Baby - well, the song is of course by Journey but this version is Rockabye Baby's instrumental ditty. We love the Rockabye Baby albums and listened to them throughout labor, delivery, our hospital stay and the first weeks home. It's great background music and we couldn't resist using one of "our songs".

The first month, as all new parents will tell you, was a blur. Looking at these pictures is surreal - he was so little! And we were so busy. We were very fortunate to have many visitors and helping hands - thank you!

Desmond proved to be quite the popular one. He met his Great Uncle Tom, his cousins (first, second, once or twice removed... who knows? We're family and that's what counts!) on both sides of the family, his Great Grandmother Hazel, his girlfriend - Little Lucy - born ten days before Baby D, his buddy and Sunset Brother - Oliver, aunties and uncles (biological and honorary!), many friends and was showered with love.

The month was busy with GG's birthday, pediatrician visits, first long car rides, walks with Mama and Daddy in the snuggly baby carrier and lots of eating and sleeping - for everyone! Des got into a pretty good sleeping schedule around week 4, going to bed at night at a decent hour and sleeping "through the night" (5-6 hours straight). We know it could change at any minute and are counting our blessings while we can. Towards the end of the third week, maybe, (who can remember now?) Dique and I started actually going to bed at night instead of napping on the couch and watching episodes of Community, White Collar and Burn Notice while nursing. Sleeping in bed; what a novel idea. It helps that Des is a big boy - at his one month check-up he already weighed 12 pounds! WOW!

We couldn't have made it through the first month without advice, support, kindness and love from friends and family. Thank you for the phone calls, visits, gifts, food and beer. Especially the beer.
